Whilst the line is sometimes blurred between a visualiser and a music video, these are what I would consider to be more substantial music videos. Made exclusively to promote key singles from a release. These are often live action and more narrative driven.
Over the course of the last 10+ years i've had the pleasure of being able to make a number of music promos for the band 'Teleman' via Moshi Moshi Records.
Testing things to their breaking point I wanted to capture that moment of intense pressure just before they buckle and B R E A K ! Oh and we are also cross dressing which felt quite nice and breezy between the legs.
This simple idea sees coloured circles creating the backdrop to an equally sparse song. Acting as place holders for characters in different micro scenes the dots strip back the idea of a what a music video can be.
Directed with my brother Tom after he had a vision of all his daughters toys coming to life and dancing in time with the song. Shot at home with green gloves, sticks and fabric
A happy ongoing relationship with London dream rockers Crushed Beaks has seen us experimenting with unusual ideas on shoestring budgets.
Taped two mini DV cameras together and filmed Matt walking about south London
Crash pan overload to create an illusion of one guy's strange existence in a deserted house being stalked by another strange man.
I was originally asked by Le Pel Records to make this video just before the lockdown but had to suddenly change plans. These new limitations added an interesting twist. The idea of coordinating two actors who will never be in the same room together to perform a synchronised “one take” for nearly 6 minutes was hard enough. Then I decided one of them should be performed backwards.
Thank you Anders Hayward for choreographing the dance and movement and thank you Levi Heaton for learning it backwards. Both supremely talented.
They had to shoot it themselves. I wanted a mixture of wide, close and hand held shots and to incorporate the idea of it being a #selfie into Levi’s ‘freakout’ sequence at the end.
Finally I told them to run out of their houses in their socks, wearing evening wear and filming themselves.
I guess we finally went mad in lockdown.

An abstract piece, a blend of live action, projections and graphics added in post. This was my reponse to Sheridan Tongue’s atmospheric track Broken Ones. I envisaged two android like beings coming to life and gaining sentience through various lights, particles and beams.

“Internationally acclaimed Film & TV Composer Sheridan Tongue (Silent Witness, Wonders Of The Universe, Spotlight On The Troubles) explores new territory with his first solo release in nearly four years under the pseudonym IN-IS.
Maintaining his same cinematic aspects, ‘Broken Ones (feat. Haula)’ shows a
darker, melodic side to the IN-IS musical landscape. Comprised of a deep sonic
palette that combines strings, electronics, modern classical and beautiful textures,
‘Broken Ones (feat. Haula)’ approaches the sublime. “

Shot using as many bendy reflective surfaces as possible to fulfil the band's brief of "a magenta based psychedelic visual"
A dark pink and blue visual, Alice sings to herself in the mirror before the reflection gets the better of her.
